Award-Winning Boutique Design: The Purity Ring

Guang Zhang's Innovative Approach to Commercial Space Design

The Purity Ring project is a boutique design that breaks away from the norm. Unlike typical stores, Zhang's design uses a large area of glass to showcase the interior's metal petals, creating a theatrical display that draws the crowd's attention. The deconstructed metal petals, white curtains, and rammed earth contribute to a vague indoor and outdoor atmosphere, providing an open feeling to the communication area.

Zhang's design process was meticulous and collaborative. The designer worked closely with the stainless steel manufacturer, adjusting the design through manual models and computer drawings. The final result, a space that feels deconstructed yet not sharp, owes much to the cooperation with the workers on-site. The proportions of the metal blocks in the air and on the ground directly affect the atmosphere people feel in the space.

The Purity Ring project is not just about aesthetics; it also considers the shopping habits of local people. Zhang designed the waiting and cash register area in a circle through a curve, fostering a natural dialogue between customers and salespersons. The customer's locker room is designed on the steps at the end of the space, with waiting seats in the form of a T-shaped platform. As customers emerge from the corner with new clothes, the space forms a complete experience.

The project started in July 2021 in ShenZhen and was completed in October 2022. Throughout the design process, Zhang continuously observed the customers' attitudes towards the products, aiming to connect customers and brands through space and promote purchase behavior. The biggest challenge was to create a space that takes the form of deconstruction without being aggressive, using hard materials to express a soft spirit.

Guang Zhang's Purity Ring project is a testament to the designer's innovative approach to commercial space design. The project was awarded Silver in A' Interior Space, Retail and Exhibition Design Award in 2023, a prestigious recognition for top-of-the-line, creative, and professionally remarkable designs. With its unique blend of form and function, the Purity Ring project sets a new standard for boutique design.
